With this 4-ingredient churro-inspired caramel crack, I wanted to put a twist on the ever-popular Christmas crack, but make it even easier with the help of Coles Prepares and Creates Dulce De Leche Caramel. Churros are one of those universally loved desserts, but they can be a bit of a project to make at home. This captures all those cinnamon-sugar and caramel vibes in a shortened format using supermarket staples. With just 4 ingredients, you get churro energy without frying anything – plus, it’s super quick and easy.
Nothing beats a warm cinnamon donut. This version takes me right back to traveling through Spain and happily eating my weight in churros. It’s best to serve them chilled so you get that satisfying shot.
Note that the crack needs to cool for 2 hours in the refrigerator.
💡Tip: Time everything
Timing is everything here. Cook the dulce de leche only until bubbles begin to appear around the edges. Any longer and salads may become distorted, making it harder to spread the chocolate smoothly on top once cooled.
Unlike traditional crack, this version is best enjoyed the day you make it because the Saladas soften over time. Leftovers, however, can be stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 2 days.
If you like an extra salty-sweet touch, you can add a little flaky sea salt to the dulce de leche before spreading it on salads. Once set, it slices beautifully, but it’s just as fun to break it into shards and let everyone take a piece.
Key Ingredients in My Churro-Inspired 4-Ingredient Caramel Crack Recipe
- Salada Crispy Breads: these form the basis. They’re sturdy, salty, and the perfect vessel for that caramel and chocolate.
- Coles prepares and creates Dulce De Leche Caramel: the hero. Thick, creamy caramel that gives you instant depth of flavor without making it from scratch. Warm the dulce de leche slightly so that it spreads easily.
- White chocolate: it’s sweet, creamy and contrasts perfectly with the salty base and cinnamon.
- Cinnamon sugar: your churro tail. Don’t skip it – it’s what turns this caramel into churro crack.
