Did that come from you? – RecipeTin Eats

Must Try

I’m looking for the return address of some readers who sent me lovely notes and gifts when Dozer crossed the Rainbow Bridge. If you sent any of the cards or items pictured in this post, please contact me at Lookingfor@recipetineats.com so I can properly thank you! 🥰

When the Internet Became Real Kindness

It’s been 3 months and 9 days since I said goodbye to Dozer. Everyone knew I was going to collapse. What no one expected, least of all me, was the incredible outpouring of support that followed – emails, messages, cards, letters, flowers and gifts sent from readers around the world.

Every email, message and comment I received mattered and carried me through some very sad days. The kindness many of you have shown by taking the time to write and reach out has made this fast-paced online virtual world much more real and human than I could have ever imagined.

This is something I will never take for granted and will always be grateful for. Thank you, from the bottom of my heart.

Looking for readers

As I sent thank you notes, I realized I was missing return addresses for some of the lovely notes and gifts that were mailed to me. Labels were washed away in the rain, some items were separated from envelopes, and others had no return address that I could see.

So today, I’m doing something a little unusual: a post to try to find the kind people who took the time to send me mail, but whose return address I don’t have, so I can thank them properly.

I know it might seem extreme to some people to dedicate an entire post to researching a handful of people – but that’s me, that’s how I operate, and I would do this post even if I was only looking for one reader.

Did it come from you?

If you recognize a card or item listed as yours and would be comfortable providing me with your mailing address, please email your contact information to Lookingfor@recipetineats.com!

1. Karen Flowers in Geelong

It was the first gift that arrived for Dozer while he was at Karen’s Veterinary Hospital in Geelong. I kept them in a basket attached to a beeping machine that Dozer was connected to. Nice decorative touch to the ICU, I thought! 🥰 He loved them so much, even in his sick state, he would lick them to check if they were edible. It was my Dozer. 🥰

2. Friendship Bracelets

These actually arrived in December but between the Christmas holidays, annual leave and then Dozer’s hospitalization, I only received them the day I said goodbye to him. Since then, I have worn them almost every day. Thank you Christine, Monique and Harriet. These are very special to me.

3. ADORABLY WONKY DONKEY

Robyn told me to squeeze him when I felt sad, and he would bring me comfort. I did as suggested! ❤️

4. t-shirt and toy

From Donna, a stuffed animal and a t-shirt that made me laugh!

5. Kate Charm

Helium balloon card and gold necklace with a Kate charm. I wear the necklace every day. ❤️

6. BEAUTIFUL MESSAGE from emily-rose

Thank you for taking the time to write to me and send me this card, Emily-Rose. It’s so nice to receive mail in the mailbox that isn’t a bill! ❤️

7. A THOUGHT MAP from Bonnie

Thank you for your thoughtful message and card, Bonnie. Acts of kindness like this meant so much to me during such a sad time. ❤️

8. FLOWERS DELIVERED TO RTM

The lovely native arrangement below was delivered to RTM with a handwritten but unnamed card. The only clue I have is that the flowers were delivered by Sydney Flowers in North Ryde. Did that come from you?

9. A MARTIN COOKING BOOK

A beautiful, big (!) cookbook from the late, great Greg Malouf, donated by Martin of Hornsby Heights. Martin, I grew up in nearby Asquith!

10. FLOWERS LEFT OUTSIDE RTM TO DOZER

To the beautiful and kind people who left flowers for Dozer in front of RTM, I would like to know who you are so I can thank you properly. (Also, I’m sad to report that the flower thief is back to his bad habits. 😢 I’m seriously considering putting a camera in front of RTM!)

Are you missing from the list?

If you sent me a letter, flowers or gift and provided a return address, keep an eye on your mailbox over the coming week! If you have sent me something and your item is not listed above and you do not receive a message from me within the next fortnight, please contact me at Lookingfor@recipetineats.com with a description of what you sent so I can try to track it down. ❤️

Special note to SASH and the team who were there with me at the end

I haven’t forgotten you. Not for a second. Truthfully, your notes are the hardest for me to write because what you did for Dozer and for me meant so much that I really don’t know where to start. It seems too important to be reduced to words that don’t seem enough. But I will. ❤️

SASH – I haven’t forgotten you. These are the most difficult notes to write. ❤️

In memory of the bulldozer

Today is two years ago. This photo series is exactly what I want to remember about Dozer. ❤️

It’s that time of year where we’re well on our way to winter, so you’d think I might have skipped the regular beach visits, especially as it was a decent hike after getting away from the Northern Beaches.

But no. We put on the down jacket, thermal leggings and rubber boots, and headed out into the cold winds. The beach was where he was happiest, and there was no way I could deprive him of it. ❤️

These photos were taken by Rob Palmer for This evening. We took LOTS of photos that day! Dozer has really gotten used to being in front of the camera. 🥰 It came with work!
